Polymyalgia rheumatica

An inflammatory condition causing aching and morning stiffness in the shoulders, neck and hips.

What it is

PMR is common in older adults and usually responds quickly to low-dose steroids. It can occur with giant cell arteritis.

•Morning shoulder and hip stiffness
•Aching
•Tiredness
•Quick response to steroids

Who it affects

Almost exclusively in adults over 50, more common in women.
